The Importance Of Gospel Music
Gospel music throughout history has always played an intricate role in the Black church worship experience. Gospel music mirrors the essence of the Black experience, and demonstrates that unique experience through deliberately exciting melodies that often evokes a lively call and response from the church congregation. Throughout the travails of the Black experience, and particularly during the civil rights movement, gospel music served as a foundation for spiritual, moral, and physical support to an oppressed people.
Gospel music is more than just mere entertainment. Gospel music has become the portal where one can become intimate with God, and has become the lyrical poetry and voice for the people. Presently, Gospel music has expanded beyond the borders of the Southern region of North America. Gospel music now has a global reach and is used as a musical expression of love for humanity and praises to the Creator. |
